Wildfires in southern Europe lead to thousands of evacuations in France and neighboring countries

Firefighters across several countries in southern Europe are currently battling large wildfires that have prompted mass evacuations of residents. In the Pyrénées-Orientales region of southwestern France, a major blaze is not yet fully contained as of July 8. Reports from France 24 indicate that authorities have evacuated approximately 12,000 people from this area to ensure safety while fire crews work to contain the flames.

This situation follows an initial warning issued by French Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu on July 2. Following a period of record-breaking heat, the Prime Minister alerted the public to the risk of early wildfire outbreaks. At that time, reports indicated that nearly 3,000 people had been evacuated as fires began to spread across the southwestern region.
