India to raise passport fees starting July 1

The Indian government plans to implement a new fee structure for passport issuance starting July 1. According to reports from NDTV, The Times of India, and The Indian Express, the cost for obtaining a new passport will be set at Rs 2,500.
While all three news outlets agree on the base price for standard passports, they provide differing figures regarding Tatkal services, which are processed on an expedited basis. Both The Times of India and The Indian Express report that the fee for these applications will rise to approximately Rs 6,000. NDTV reports a different figure of Rs 5,000 for the Tatkal service.
