A study conducted by the video creation platform Kapwing indicates that approximately 60% of TikTok videos are "AI slop," a term used to describe content generated via artificial intelligence. The findings, reported by both 9to5Mac and Search Engine Journal, suggest a higher prevalence of such material on TikTok compared to YouTube.

The research involved the manual review of more than 10,000 TikTok videos across 20 different categories. To further assess how content is presented to users, Kapwing conducted tests using fresh accounts to populate "For You" feeds. These specific tests found that roughly 59% of the first 500 videos served were identified as AI-generated.

The report highlights a significant disparity between the two platforms. According to data from Kapwing, only about 21% of YouTube content was categorized as AI slop during similar testing. The findings indicate that TikTok serves approximately three times more AI-generated content than YouTube in these instances, highlighting different levels of automated media presence across the two major video platforms.
