Tesco is introducing a specific iteration of its Clubcard loyalty program for customers who are 16 and 17 years old. This change allows younger shoppers to access thousands of discounted prices in store, including "Clubcard Prices" on items such as the £3.85 lunchtime meal deal.

The new scheme enables these teenagers to collect points on their purchases, which can then be converted into vouchers for discounts at checkout. According to reporting from the Daily Mail, while these customers gain access to the loyalty system, they must be invited by an adult to participate in the program.

This move follows a period of pressure from consumer advocacy groups who argued that younger shoppers were previously excluded from lower grocery prices due to their age. By opening membership to those aged 16 and 17, the retailer aims to provide these customers with more affordable options for the first time.

Reporting from The Sun suggests that the inclusion of these discounts could save teenagers up to £351 a year by providing access to lower prices across various categories. While over 24 million UK households currently use the standard Clubcard system, this new version is tailored specifically to the needs of shoppers under 18.

The Independent and The Mirror both report that the update gives younger customers access to "Clubcard Prices" deals for the first time. This expansion reflects an effort to make the loyalty program more inclusive for those transitioning into adulthood.
