Thunderstorms cause hundreds of flight delays at Heathrow and Gatwick

Thunderstorms across parts of the United Kingdom caused significant travel disruptions on Saturday, resulting in more than 1,000 flights being delayed or cancelled at several major airports. The disruption was most pronounced at London Heathrow and Gatwick.

The Sun reported that these figures included 1,019 delays and 160 cancellations as air traffic restrictions were implemented overnight. These disruptions affected multiple locations; for instance, Edinburgh recorded 120 delayed flights during the period.

At Heathrow, approximately 440 flights were delayed, while Gatwick saw 425 impacts according to The Sun. BBC News reported that storm systems south of England resulted in more than 600 delays specifically at those two London hubs. The Mirror also confirmed significant disruptions at both Heathrow and Gatwick due to the stormy weather.
